Understanding the process: - To use this technique, you'll have to be able to do three things. The first is clear your mind, the second is notice tiny shifts in your awareness, and the third is not letting illusionary thoughts that pop up influence you. This technique will give you a good idea of the difference between real and illusionary thoughts. For example, if the first 4 cards are red, then your (illusionary) thoughts will use past experience and the law of averages and assume that the next card should be black. In reality all the cards might be red. You'll have to clear your mind of these thoughts and only pay attention to the tiny shifts in your awareness.

Noticing shifts in your awarness: - To get started, first you'll want to clear your mind (if you can't do this yet, you'll be wasting your time with this section). Once your mind is clear, gently center your awareness in the center of your forehead (just like you did with the flame). Slowly shift your awareness to the left side of your head, making sure you don't feel any strain or tension. Really try to notice what it feels like when your awareness shifts to the left. Bring your awareness back to the center and do the same thing for the right side of your head. At this point choose which side you would like to represent each color. Example: A shift to the right means black and a shift to the left means red.

Using the cards: - Shuffle the cards a few times, close your eyes and place the deck face up in front of you. Once your eyes are closed let them relax (let your eyes naturally fall downward) and keep you awareness centered. Place your finger tips on the top card. Hold your awareness in the center for about a minute and then just let it go and notice which side it naturally shifts (the left "red" or right "black"). Now open your eyes and see if it's black or red. If you noticed your awareness shift to left and the card is red, you were correct. If you noticed your awareness shift to left and the card is black, you were not correct. Give yourself some time to learn the technique. Don't expect to go from 5 in a row to 10 in a row, the first day. It takes time, but you should see steady progress.
This may seem very simple, and it is. What makes it complicated is all the nonsense thoughts. Always keep in mind that it's not a analytical process, you aren't going to be able think the next color. All you need to do is notice the shift of awareness (without influencing it) and nothing else. As you get better at the technique you can try placing the deck face down.

Tips and hints: - Always try 10 cards in a row. No matter what the results are, write them down so you can chart your improvement. You may notice that you always seem to get the first one or two cards right and then start picking incorrectly. All this means is, your mind is clear at first because it's no big deal to pick a couple of cards correctly. It's when you get a few too many correct that you start thinking. When you start thinking you get influenced, instead of only noticing the shifts in awareness.
